Definitely Black-shouldered Kite.

Public holiday here in Chile today, so went with colleagues to the golf course at Maria Pinto, a 65km drive west of Santiago, and the place where I did my first Chile birding just over 2 months ago.I had a good day, adding 4 lifers - Dark-faced Ground-Tyrant, Pied-billed Grebe (taking my Chile/Peru list to 100), and then 2 more in Spot-flanked Gallinule and South American (Magellanic) Snipe. I also managed a better photo (but still not quite crisp enough) of the Fire-eyed Diucon and my first photos of the common Chilean hummingbird, the Green-backed Firecrown. This might well be my last South American birding for a while as the weather next weekend is supposedly going to be miserable, and the following weekend I arrive back in SA for a month's break.Dark-faced Ground-Tyrant - this family fills the niche of the African chatsImageFire-eyed Diucon - a 21cm flycatcher; at least you can see the red eye much better in this shotImageNot a great shot but good enough to identify the Pied-billed Grebe - in non-breeding plumage, so no pied billImageSpot-flanked GallinuleImageGreen-backed Firecrown - no "firecrown" as this is the femaleImageNeil

Hi Tom (?),The image(s) came out quite small on my screen but from what I can make out it is a Black-Shouldered Kite. Assuming of course this was seen in Southern Africa and not in the wild west or east - as then I'd have no clue!regards,Dave
