Discover Sedgefield South Africa

Sedgefield South Africa is the secret gem of the Garden Route and Africa’s first Slow Town affiliated to the founding organisation, Italy’s Cittaslow.
Here you can slow down to the speed of nature and engage in any number of outdoor activities in a beautiful natural environment.
Breathe in deeply our fresh unpolluted air. Picnic next to the lagoon. Laze under an umbrella on the beach with a good book. Swim in the invigorating water. Throw a fishing line from the rocks. Canoe the rivers. Hike the nature trails. Cycle wherever your fancy takes you. Take a paragliding lesson. Explore the back roads. Birdwatch! Or............Just sit and let the peace of the place soak in!
Plus - Sedgefield now falls within the recently established Garden Route National Park which has evolved from a new concept of “conservation without boundaries”. This creates the opportunity to protect the magnificent Garden Route region from damaging exploitation by establishing innovative mechanisms for people with all their associated complex human activities to sustainably interact with this fragile and beautiful nature-oriented environment.

Margate Jack and Liz made a dream come true when in 1992, they were able to purchase the exact place they'd seen and always loved when walking along the Swartvlei Lagoon whilst visiting Sedgefield on holiday. After many wonderful family holidays in their own holiday cottage they decided in 2007, to rebuild the cottage into a home suitable for their retirement. A decision they have never regretted!

Apr 21, Knysna Literary Festival

21 April 2012 17:09 17

Knysna Literary Festival A literary feast is promised next weekend by Ling Dobson of Pam Golding, Knysna who is both sponsor and organiser of the festival. Much work amongst schools has gone on in the background and Ling has gone to great lengths to promote and improve literacy in the area. This means that there are several special events for children such as the Schools' Writing Competition and the National Childrens' Theatre production of "African Tapestry". Then there are a number of diverse and exciting events on the programme to whet the appetite of adult book-lovers such as a breakfast with Mandy Wiener writer of "Killing Kebel" or lunch at Pezula with internationally acclaimed crime writers, Mike Nocol, Margie Orford and Michael Stanley.

Moroccan theme In April, Sedgefield Slow Food Workshop attendees participated in a Moroccan theme held the Tuesday after the Slow Festival weekend. At the light and bright Cutty Sark Restaurant overlooking a calm Swartvlei Lake at Pine Lake Marina, we enjoyed the rich flavours of an old North African culture subjected to Arab, Mediterranean, Moorish and Berber influences. Consequently Moroccan food is more heavily spiced than Middle Eastern cuisine....

Sedgefield Family Festival Easter 2012 saw Sedgefield's Slow Festival come of age as its creators produced a family festival they can be proud of. The whole town rallied round and either initiated or gave support to a good number of suitably "slow" themed activities. The weather didn't always play along with the organisers as so many of the events were scheduled to occur in our magnificent outdoors but most of the important ones managed to take place including the eagerly anticipated Easter Sunday Parade. Overall, it seems that the whole weekend was a great success and kudos to those who gave it a huge amount of their time and effort!
