Wine, Dine and Dance in Stellenbosch

By Greater Stellenbosch 2010, 09.06.10 | Comments

Celebrate, indulge and enjoy the good life in Stellenbosch during your World Cup stay.

Stellenbosch is the definitive food and wine destination of South Africa. With over 100 dining establishments and 150 cellars in the region, World Cup visitors will be spoiled for choice when exploring the treasures of the Cape Winelands.

Stellenbosch is characterised by a culture that celebrates food and wine in spectacular surroundings. Restaurants and wine estates are set against scenic backdrops of rolling vineyards, mountains and oak-lined streets.

The Greater Stellenbosch 2010 Project and the local community welcome World Cup visitors to the Cape wine route for a truly African experience. "To many South Africans the 2010 Soccer World Cup provides an ideal opportunity to showcase our humanity and the various cultures which truly make us a unique and special country,†says Alderman Cyril Jooste, Executive Mayor of Stellenbosch.

Wine tasting

Stellenbosch is renowned for its distinctive terroir and high quality of grapes, reflected in the character of the exceptional wines produced in this region. As the oldest wine route in South Africa, Stellenbosch is one of the country's premier tourist destinations.

Stellenbosch is home to a fine selection of cellars, producing some of the country's most acclaimed wines. Taste an array of wines in large modern estates, grand manor houses or Cape Dutch-styled wineries, or experience the charm of boutique wineries. Smaller wine farms offer intimate wine tasting experiences in rustic cellars, where you might be treated to a tasting with the winemaker.

Stellenbosch wine estates offer a host of food and wine pairing varieties. Popular tastings include wines paired with chocolate, nougat, cheese, olives, biltong, nuts, ice cream and sorbet as accompaniments. Many estates offer platters, picnic baskets and deli selections as part of their wine tasting experiences.

World Cup visitors can purchase wine at the estates, and quantities of all sizes can be delivered locally and internationally.

Wine farms in Stellenbosch offer memorable dining experiences at their adjoining restaurants.

Wineland dining

Restaurants of all varieties can be found in the picturesque town of Stellenbosch. From award-winning restaurants to family-friendly eateries where you can enjoy familiar favourites. Street cafes are aplenty and idyllic picnic spots are dotted across the Winelands. Dining in Stellenbosch is always complemented by spectacular views and of course, the finest selection of local wines.

Regardless of the weather or season, Stellenbosch eateries provide a pleasant setting for dining. Enjoy hearty winter meals around log fires or dine in the shade of the oaks, to escape the heat. World Cup visitors will be treated to cosy indulgence and al-fresco splendour.

Nightlife and celebrations

Celebrate World Cup victories at one of the local night spots. Stellenbosch offers a host of dance clubs, pubs, lounges, bars and live music venues where you can dance the night away. The vibrant nightlife can be attributed to the high-spirited student community.

Enjoy your World Cup experience in the heart of the Winelands. Stellenbosch boasts natural beauty, fine wining and dining and a cheerful community of sporting enthusiasts.
