Pass the peace please!
If all the advancements in the world are designed for humanity's peace and comfort; why have we not found peace? Internationally eminent philosopher, Sunandaji, dishes out the truth about inner peace.
In South Africa this August, Indian guru Sunandaji will be conducting a series of lectures across the country. She will visit WItsm UCT and UKZN in a series of lectures aimed to offer students an insight into the technique of living that brings both peace and prosperity.
There's no arguing science has made a colossal contribution to society. Humanity is spoilt for choice. But upon careful observation you find seated midst the comforts and pampering of the highly developed world, humanity is still depressed, diseased and despondent. All the scientific and technological advancements are to no avail.
Daughter-disciple of renowned philosopher Swami Parthasarathy, Sunandaji, had a rare and fortunate upbringing in an ashram surrounded by sages and saints. It was there that her father, Swami Parthasarathy, learnt Vedanta, the ancient philosophy of life and living. "By the time I was sixteen, my mind was full of questions, so I took them to my father," she recalls. From that moment, Sunandaji decided to follow her father's footsteps and dedicate her life to the propagation of Vedanta. That was over three decades ago.
Since then she has addressed diverse audiences across five continents. The predicament mankind faces, says Sunandaji, is that we believe acquiring objects and beings from the world will make us happy and peaceful. You can acquire what you want but to find fulfillment through acquisition is not possible, she states.
Peace is within "“ so cliché, you might think. A timeless truth according to Vedanta. There is no elixir for peace and we all know it is difficult to find it within "“ so what does Vedanta suggest. Sunandaji answers, "You have to be committed to raise yourself by yourself, no-one can do it for you, asserts Sunandaji. You're always looking outside yourself for peace, she says, the fact is, the peace which you seek is closer to you than you think."
Lectures on the Price of Peace will be conducted on 02-03 August 2010 at Wits , 06 "“ 07 August 2010 UCT and 10 August, UKZN.
