Boss of the Year Award - Call for Nominations
Boss of the Year 2010 Nomination time!
Celebrating 21 years in 2010, the prestigious Boss of the Year Award is once again calling for nominations as it again looks for rising stars or those well established as leading lights in the workplace.
This unique national award pays tribute to leaders in the workplace who continually strive to provide guidance that places their company and staff ahead of the pack despite tough economic conditions.
Says Ornella Trinco of Dictum Publishers, organisers of the Award:
“We’re looking to identify and recognise bosses throughout South Africa who make people look forward to go to work! It hasn’t been easy for many companies in the past year as the economy has not been favourable to many sectors, so leadership has been truly tried and tested in many cases.
Yet despite some odds, there have been bosses who have held their people together and inspired hope and gave confidence to keep striving and doing their best.
“Bosses who understand the needs of people and motivate them, and provide rolemodelling behaviours are not scarce. We can proudly say that this Award has played a role in humanising the workplace and today many more cases of enlightened leadership are witnessed both in large and small firms; both from top executives as well as middle-management – and that is what makes all the work around this Award very gratifying.
“But at the end of the day, we depend on employees throughout the nation – in the private, public and civil society sectors – to bring good bosses to our attention, so that they may get the just recognition! And continue the endeavour of finding role-models for current and future leaders”.
With MTN SA Foundation entering its third year as patron and main sponsor, Eunice Maluleke, head of MTN SA Foundation, says: “As we slowly emerge from a global recession, while still managing the vast changes globalisation and technology are having on our businesses and ourselves, we must realise that strong leadership is more important than ever to guide us into the future.
“We need great business leaders with vision, who can articulate that vision, passionately own it and drive it to completion. Without passion, the position of leadership is meaningless. And passionate leaders inspire others to strive for more and achieve more; they inspire confidence and success in their peers and colleagues. Good leaders make people feel that they are at the very heart of the success of the organisation; that they make an essential difference. When that happens, people grow and deliver and go on to inspire others.”
Apart from the honour of being rated amongst the best bosses in South Africa, the recipient of the award and his/her nominator, as well as all the finalists and their nominators receive a constellation of prizes from an A-list of sponsors.
