Media newcomer fills marketing void
Wordsmyth, a new copywriting department within Medios Marketing Communications, recently landed two web site content generation contracts.
The department, which focuses on online and offline content production, was opened when Medios Marketing Communications identified a need for technical writing in corporate South Africa.
"There aren't many writers who specialise in technical and web content. A lot of companies are in dire need of search engine optimised web sites. While some web development companies offer SEO training, very few professional writers can produce well-written web content with SEO in mind," said Wordsmyth head of department Kristia van Heerden.
"Medios managing director Jacques van den Bergh and myself started planning the new writing department over a year ago. At the beginning of 2010 Jacques restructured Medios to accommodate the new department. I started a blog in preparation of the official Wordsmyth launch on 1 April 2010," said Van Heerden.
However, months before the department's official launch, two companies approached Wordsmyth for SEO content on user generated content sites. Chemtech Laboratory Services and LTE Consulting both needed web content that is relevant and search engine optimised.
"What we try to bring across to clients is that web sites should never be static. Fresh and relevant content is sometimes more valuable than high search engine rankings. What we know from our public relations and marketing experience is that web sites should add value to the visitor. We therefore encourage anyone with a web site to continually produce content, which includes everything from product and service information to media releases and blogs," said van Heerden.
In addition to web content, the Wordsmyth service offering includes newsletters, media releases, company profiles, individual profiles, brochure copy, advertising copy, product descriptions and content distribution services.
"Wordsmyth is a one-stop writing shop. The idea is to offer comprehensive writing services that will add value to our clients and their clients. Our strong public relations and marketing background provides a solid foundation on which to build the new department," van Heerden concluded.
