Acne & The Skin's Acid Mantle - Why your acne is not going away
Having acne robs you of self confidence and can really influence your life in a negative way. It usually goes away once you reach your twenties, but for most people this is too long to wait.
Most commercial products don't get rid of acne, and many leave your skin even worse off. This is because they contain ingredients which irritate the skin, or strip away the skin's natural oils. This affects your skins acid mantle.
The acid mantle is a layer that protects your skin. Because it is acidic, it kills bacteria on the skins surface. If you use products that strip away this protective layer, the bacteria will then have a chance to cause or aggravate acne.
Many commercial cleansers contain anti-bacterial ingredients, the most common being triclosan. This is useless because once you wash away the cleanser, the anti-bacterial ingredient is washed away too, along with your skins acid mantle.
Acne is also treated by pills that contain high dosages of Vit A, and this has helped some people but the pills often have bad side effects, notably liver damage.
The best way to treat acne is by using natural skincare products that don't irritate the skin or strip away the skins acid mantle and also by following a healthy diet with few processed foods and lots of fruit & vegetables.
