Organic Skincare - Beware of Labels That Say Organic
People are becoming more aware of what ingredients are in their skincare products, and many are switching to natural products that contain no mineral oils, sulphates, parabens, etc.
As a result, a lot of products are being labeled organic, to "cash in" on the trend to switch to natural products. But these products still contain chemicals and other synthetic ingredients.
This is allowed because by law, anything that contains carbon can be labeled organic. This means that sometimes when you buy a product that is supposedly organic and natural, it can still contain toxic chemicals.
A way to overcome this is to educate yourself on the names of ingredients and read the labels to see if they contain any unsatisfactory ingrdients. A great resource is www.cosmeticdatabase.com. This site contains almost every commercial cosmetic product, and has a rating for each product. The rating is high risk or low risk, and is derived from how many toxic chemicals are in the product and their known effects. For example, Clean & Clear Deep Action Cleansing Wipes have a rating of 8, which is a high hazard rating, 10 being the highest!
