Coke Fest 2010 Cancelled
One of South Africa's most anticipated annual rock music events will not take place this year. Although not yet officially expressed in a press release, word is that Coca Cola won't be able to sponsor the event as they are focusing their resources on the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
"The sad news is that there is no Coke Zero Fest this year as Coca-Cola are one of the major sponsors of the Fifa World Cup so all their energy (and resources) have been channeled to this event," Penny Stein Promotions confirmed with entertainmentafrica.co.za.
"We are however hoping for an official statement from Coca-Cola in the next few days regarding this," Domyan, Penny Stein Promotions. (source)
While many fans have expressed disappointment on various Facebook groups, some are already ecouraging others to suggest the bands they'd most like to see live in 2011. Some popular favourites listed include
- Linkin Park
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Kings of Leon
- Greenday
- Slipknot (like thats ever going to happen)
Ramfest IV
Fear not rock / metal fans, as we still have Ramfest to look forward to in February. In its fourth year, Ramfest IV promises to rock harder than ever taking place February 26 - 27 (Worcester) and March 6 in Gauteng for the first time.
Some of the bands you'll be able to see include local favourites such as Lark, Boo!, Taxi Violence, Dirty Skirts, The Narrow, Rudimentals and Mind Assault. This years international headline band is Pendulum (kind of a black sheep in this kind of line up, but maybe they're good on stage?) from Australia & UK.
