Mobile Phones to be Used as Education Platform

Full Tank Media Solutions, in conjunction with Breakthru Marketing International are launching a new and innovative application, called “The Homework Diary”. This application uses mobile based technology to keep parents / guardians up to date, regarding learners’ homework and assignment requirements.   It further creates a communication platform ideal for educator & parent / guardian interaction.  By utilising this system, busy yet dedicated parents / guardians can receive the learner’s homework for the day within minutes. 

It can be said that homework serves as a link between school and home; therefore, it is up to the parent / guardian to strengthen the link by supporting their children with their homework and assignments. We are of the firm belief that larger responsibility has to be given and/or transferred to the home front in order to facilitate consistency and achievement in the academic success of the learner.  To quote the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga: “We need to work together...because the education challenges cannot be handled by the Department alone.  We need to make education everybody’s business.”

The Homework Diary also aspires to increase the involvement of businesses regarding schools as far as having businesses adopt underprivileged and / or government sponsored schools with regard to facilitating access to this service. Former Education Minister Naledi Pandor has challenged South African businesses to help build a numerate, literate and technologically advanced society by supporting and adopting schools. She stated that, “The challenges that we face require hard work from all. Government cannot overcome these challenges alone. We need the support of stakeholders and partners.” We at, The Homework Diary, are of the same opinion and are looking forward to working together with business, government and the public in order to embed an ethos of joining together to yield educational success.

In the same spirit, a fund, revenued by the incoming sms’s will be set up in order to help alleviate some of the many challenges facing education in South Africa. This fund will cater for the under-resourced schools which fit under the “government funded school” umbrella.
