Glenville Junior Tournament Results

The Glenville Celtic A.F.C. Junior Tournament ended in spectacular fashion at the Gelvan Track on Friday 4th July 2008

The weather was good the whole week that led to some excellent soccer being played. The visiting teams really impressed at the tornament. In the end the the finals were contested as follows

Under 9 Hotspurs(0) vs Glenville (1)

Under 11 Swallows (0) vs Glenville 2

Under 13 Police Academy (3) vs Glenville (3) Police Academy went on to win the game on a penalty shootout 9 - 8

Under 15 Newtons Stellenbosch (2) vs Celtic PE (0)

Under 17 Swallows PE 2 vs Newtons Stellenbosch (1).

This game was well balanced and ended 0 - 0 after the regalion time. the game went into extra time and still in did not seem like anyone would score. with two minutes left and the game heading for penalties Swallows broke the deadlock. Still in that celebratory mode and thinking it was all over over Newtons equalised from the restart. that got the crowds going and now everyone was preparing for the penalty shootout. With thirty seconds left on the clock Swallows again silenced the crowd when Newtons did not focus and through a defensive blunder scored the winner making them the 2008 under 17 champions
