Know what really Matters
How you act at work is often the most documented record of how you are feeling at the time. How people perceive us depends on our daily interaction with them. The majority of working people confess to experiencing a disconnection between having a job and doing what they are really passionate about. Many of these people are experiencing irregular sleeping habits, stress, and have for years been left wondering what really matters in their life. Since work is not just an eight-hour interruption of the day and you spend most of your waking hours at work, it is important to start finding your passion and incorporating it into your job.
I would like to pose three questions to you:
Number One: If your life could be exactly the way you want it to be, what would it look like?
Picture in your mind the typical day you would have... better still, write it all down.
Take a minute and do this for yourself, you might be surprised by what you discover...
Question Number Two: What would you need to do to start living that life?
Be realistic.
But make sure you write down all the steps you need to take.
Question Number Three: If you keep doing what you're doing right now, will you ever reach that life?
If you're like most folks, the answer is a heart-stopping NO! Because the fact is, very few people will ever realize the life they want, following the path they're on right now. And the reason is simple really - for most people, it's because they're so caught up in the day-to-day mechanics of "making it through the day," and "making it through the month," that they just don't have the time or resources to devote to working on their BIG PICTURE of the life they REALLY want.
When you're caught up in a day-to-day struggle to survive, your dreams fall into the "someday" trap.
That's a little catch-all space you have in the back of your brain (or maybe in your heart) where you hide all of your dreams and aspirations for the day you can (Finally!!) start working toward them.
Only that day never comes. And then you die. But there's no reason, and I mean NO reason, why we can't also set aside a small portion of each day to focus on our BIG dreams. Every small step you take today IS changing your life of tomorrow.
World-renowned essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson has this to say about success:
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
