Ampaglas Reaps Maintenance Benefits From Q-CMMS

South African plastic sheeting company Ampaglas recently invested in a computerised plant maintenance management system (CMMS) from QBCon. The QBCon team did a complete analysis of Ampaglas' needs and installed a fully customised Q-CMMS. The project was completed in June, and Ampaglas is already reaping the production benefits.

"Ampaglas was using a very complicated Excel spreadsheet from Canada," said Ampaglas strategic services manager Tommie Burger.

"We've been using Q-CMMS for less than a month and we've already seen an improvement in reporting and maintenance. Our first system wasn't quite as detailed as Q-CMMS. The root cause analysis in particular exceeded my expectations," he said.

According to Burger QBCon's hands-on approach during installation ensured that glitches were sorted out immediately, making the process virtually painless.

As part of the consulting service level agreement, team leader Winston Connor spends one day per week at Ampaglas uploading data, troubleshooting and giving tips on Q-CMMS.

"We are currently ahead of our maintenance schedule, and the system had to be adapted accordingly," Burger continued.

"The system is much more than I thought it would be. I'm very excited to see the progress after a full month."

Ampaglas' luck turned only after their fourth attempt at a plant maintenance system. According to QBCon's sales and marketing director Gustav Piater, Ampaglas' relentless search for the perfect plant maintenance system finally paid off.

"Ever since the system went live the number of preventative maintenance tasks have increased greatly and they have fewer breakdowns as a result," said Piater.

"Many companies don't realise the value a CMMS can add to the production process. Knowing when a particular machine needs maintenance helps production plants schedule maintenance times that don't coincide with production times, thereby increasing profit.

"A preventative maintenance schedule also ensures that production isn't unexpectedly interrupted by breakdowns. Furthermore a CMMS ensures that companies can always prove safety compliance.

"We commend Ampaglas for having the vision to invest in a system that increases production and profit. We look forward to maintaining a very productive relationship with Ampaglas," he concluded.
