Power of Thinking

By Vedanta Centre South Africa, 08.07.09 | Comments

Are you intelligent or intellectual?

Intelligence improves your standard of living, intellect your quality of life

‘Power of Thinking’ is just one of the topics to be addressed by Indian Guru Sunandaji while she visits in August 2009.  Sunandaji is a mother, grandmother, philosopher, teacher and world-renowned speaker.

While university luminaries debate the plight of ’s educational system, Vedanta unravels the meaning of true education. Sunandaji’s discourse on The Power of Thinking expounds the necessity of developing the intellect. Intellect provides an individual with the strength to meet challenges and live a life of action and peace. Educators the world over have been focusing all their attention and effort in merely building intelligence. The world today is all intelligence, no intellect.

Surrounded by sages, Sunandaji had a rare and fortunate upbringing in an ashram, in . It was there that her father, Swami Parthasarathy, learnt Vedanta, the ancient philosophy of life and living. “By the time I was sixteen, my mind was full of questions, so I took them to my father,” she recalls. From that moment, Sunandaji decided to follow her father’s footsteps and dedicate her life to the propagation of Vedanta. That was over three decades ago. Since then she has addressed diverse audiences across five continents.

Her clear and powerful presentation of ancient wisdom in contemporary thought is acclaimed by organisations including the Young Presidents Organisation, Harvard University and International Rotary Conferences.

Her delivery is smooth and succinct, much like the philosophy of Vedanta itself, when she talks on the realities of life.

“Nothing is permanent in this world - money, relationships, achievements - yet we continue to search for that permanent factor,” she says. “And that permanent factor is the search for peace and happiness. Everyone wants peace of mind and that can only be achieved by developing oneself,” she says.

“Vedanta is a practical philosophy which gives us what we’re looking for. In today’s world, people want peace and prosperity, but they can only find one or the other, never both.” She explains.

The loss of intellect has left humans with stress, depression and disease. And a world infested with vandalism, militancy and terrorism. Humanity now faces an urgent need to rehabilitate, reconstruct the fallen intellect.

Sunandaji will speak on the following subjects:
