Personal Effectiveness Conference to Boost Workplace Productivity and Profitability
Achieving tangible, measurable business success is only possible if the people doing the work are effective at what they do. Harnessing the potential of personal effectiveness benefits individuals, teams and organisations, resulting in increased performance – and profits.
If you are looking for inspiration on how to be inwardly and outwardly effective in your workplace, or creative ways to inspire yourself and your team, you cannot afford to miss the inaugural Psychology of Personal and Team Effectiveness Conference. The first event of its kind to be hosted in South Africa, the event takes place on Tuesday 21 February 2012 at Midrand Conference Centre in Gauteng.
Everyone can Achieve
“People effectiveness is about building a capable working environment that is productive and performance driven,” says Karin Wellman, a Director of The People Element, organisers of the conference.
“Ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things – both alone and together – in a breakthrough-conducive environment,” continues Wellman. “The aim of our conference is to inspire people about the benefits of an energised and emotionally healthy workforce, and equip them with the knowledge and techniques to develop and maintain emotionally healthy surroundings, as well as increase performance and productivity.”
The People Element has put together an impressive speaker line-up of some of the best and brightest minds on people effectiveness.
People – the Essence of Business Success
International effectiveness expert Harald Korn is Chairman of The Performance Group in Oslo, Norway. For the past decade, Korn and his team have studied team effectiveness, observing and interviewing over 600 leaders in 80 management teams in both the private and public sector. The Performance Group’s work is based on the belief that people, not pieces of paper, make strategies happen and businesses succeed. His team employs a three-dimensional concept of effectiveness: team performance, relationship quality and individual satisfaction. A key speaker at the conference, Korn will discuss how to communicate in ways that capitalise on the diversity of team members and the need to develop dialogical competence.
The Science of Happiness
Katie Demain, a Global Partner of the iOpener Institute, will be addressing delegates on ‘The Science of Happiness’. “Organisations need to embrace the science of happiness at work because it has such a dramatic effect on employees, leaders and overall business results,” says Demain.
Happy employees ensure more success in the workplace. They enjoy their work, have higher job satisfaction rates, are better performers and more productive and more helpful. They give and receive more support to and from their colleagues and cope more effectively with challenges. Ultimately, happy workers improve a company’s bottom line – through higher productivity and lower absenteeism and staff turnover.
According to research conducted by the iOpener Institute, happy people are 180% more energised, 108% more engaged and 50% more motivated. In an organisation of 1 000 employees over one a year, this can reduce the cost of employee turnover by R4,3-million and absenteeism by R4,2-million. It also increases performance and productivity by 12%, adding R35,5-million to the bottom line, for an incredible R42,9-million of total retained capital.
What it takes to be a Champion
Dr Henning Gericke, 'Kopdoktor' (‘head’ doctor) and sports psychology expert, will talk about “What World Champions in Sport and Business do that set them apart”. Dr Gericke was the team psychologist for the Springbok rugby team in France for the International Rugby Board Rugby World Cup in 2007. He has also worked with Bafana Bafana, the South African national soccer team, and the Proteas (the South African national cricket team) on their one day matches.
The programme also includes a series of practical, interactive sessions, aimed at providing delegates with knowledge and practical tools to increase personal and team effectiveness.
