The world is coming to SA to eat

The message is clear. The Confederation cup has come and gone, but fifa are here to stay.

For the first time since the announcement of South Africa getting the rights the host the 2010 tournament, people are suddenly beginning to realise its magnitude and are finally waking up to the reality of what is still yet to come. Tourism industries are gearing up for the big event, transport companies are expanding their infrastructure, and the catering industry is increasing its capicity to handle food demands that are continiously increasing.

The concerns many people in the food industry have, are not so much on the increased quantities in volume of orders, but more so the time frame in which these orders need to be sourced, prepared, and dilivered. One month is what we have.

The confed cup took place over two weeks and it featured 8 teams. The world cup will last four weeks and will feature 32 teams. I'm sure anyone can work out the difference in figures.

The way I see it is like this. 'The world is coming to South Africa to eat'. I have been speaking in this kind of manner for months now, and colleagues and friends of mine who are involved in the food business are beginning to see this industry's potential.
