‘Cultural Contrasts’ Exhibits at The Gallery
The title of the show makes references to the contrasts of historical African traditions and contemporary African society. Inspired by these elements, the artist
apply masks and symbols in his work with bold design and colour, in order to establish a contemporary approach to the preservation of the symbolic references
and heritage of African folklore.
A selection of ceramics and ceramic sculptures will showcase in ‘The Gallery’, ‘The Cathedral’ and ‘The Shop’ by renowned artists such as Andile Dyalvane, Louise Gelderblom, Rae Goosen, Karin Lijnes, Zizamele, Karen Kotze, Zizipho Poswa and Nienke van der Meulen, to coincide with the ‘Franschhoek Art in Clay’ Festival running for the month of October 2011, with Andile Dyalvane as the festival artist.
‘The Project Room’ will present the Cape Craft and Design Institute’s ‘Handmade Collection’.
The ‘Dillon and Jada’ Collection, which includes a range of Vivienne Westwood shoes, is on show in ‘The Shop’ until the end of October.
