Eskom Electricity Prices Bleed us Dry

By Sustainable , 01.07.11 | Comments

Let’s get this out of the way – thanks to our countries chief parastatal being unable to cope with the demands of modern energy production, they will now be charging us 20 to 25% more on average on our electrical bill. You’re having a laugh, right? This is no joke. Electricity prices are bleeding normal South African Citizens dry and with the new Inclining Block Tariff price structure, the more electricity you use up, the higher the average price will be. Therefore it could up an extra R2000 per year for the average South African home. There will be a 25% increase in price spending on a yearly basis; so for those of us with disposable income, their nights on the town may be reduced to a DVD by candlelight.

What to do

You can start by switching off your geyser for one. This and other heating products are the very reason that we use so much electricity and the prices become so high. If you are looking to figure out how to save money, then why not try out the sustainable calculator and enjoy a hassle-free method of electrical savings. Enter your details and discover when your new energy-saving goods will pay for themselves.

Solar geysers south Africa is growing by the day and for a good reason; it saves you oodles in money! There has never been an easier way of ensuring that your electricity bill stays within acceptable levels. Installing them by yourself is no easy task, therefore it is advisable to find an installer with proficient knowledge in solar technology.

solar power can be used throughout the home, such as for your heating and to partially power your electronic goods. In order to power your home though, you would need a solar roof of an unimaginable size (these only exist in commercial companies).

Swap to LED lights – while this may not make a noticeably instant difference, it will pay out in the long run as you can get up to eight years of use from a single light bulb. Remember, switch off all lights when you leave a room.

Wrap insulated sheets around your pipes and geysers; this will keep your water warmer, for longer. As for the various other electronic goods, always turn them off at the wall when you are finished with them.

The electricity prices will not be coming down anytime soon, therefore it is prudent to save power where you can, that is until a new energy source is found and at our current rate of power consumption, let’s hope that it comes sooner rather than later.
