Look Forward to Monday Mornings

By Linestha , 24.06.11 | Comments

Most people believe that life in the 21st century is stressful business.  Balancing work & family, obligations & recreation, activity & rest - it’s tough!

“Despite common belief, work can never tire you” says Swami Parthasarathy eminent philosopher of Vedanta – an ancient knowledge of life and living. So why do you need a break at the end of the day, a weekend at the end of the week and a vacation at the end of the year?

It is not this juggling act called life that causes stress and fatigue, but the restlessness of the mind.  Every human being’s mind slips into worries of the past and anxieties for the future, and this creates extreme fatigue.  Astonishingly it is not ‘work’ that tires you, but the ramblings of your own mind.

The philosophy of Vedanta highlights the importance of developing the intellect, the thinking capacity within, to control the wanderings of the mind.  Swami Parthasarathy has managed to do this successfully for the past 60 years.  Stress is something he is rather unfamiliar with.  His physical and mental state proves it.  At age 84, he travels the world tirelessly, teaching the principles of Vedanta. Amidst his gruelling travel and teaching schedule Swami Parthasarathy engages in daily yoga and jogging along with regular cricket matches thus maintaining perfect physical health, fitness and agility. When asked how he does it Parthasarathy’s answer is simple:

“I have no worries of the past or anxiety for the future”.

Parthasarathy will visit South Africa this August. He has been studying and researching Vedanta for the past 6 decades and has translated its philosophy into practical life skills. Along with daughter-disciple Sunandaji, he will conduct a series of discourses this August on ‘Ancient Wisdom, Modern Times’.  It will elucidate the application of the principles of Vedanta in modern day life, a practice that will enhance one’s concentration, energy, success and peace of mind. When asked to sum up his message, Parthasarathy replies: ‘I teach people to look forward to Monday mornings.’
