Psychology of Successful Relationships

By Linestha , 24.06.11 | Comments
Why is it so difficult to maintain harmony in a marriage, to keep the attraction alive, to prevent infidelity and divorce?  As strange as it might sound, renowned Indian philosopher Sunandaji, who will be visiting South Africa this August, has all the answers.

Sunandaji herself being a wife, mother, grandmother and above all, daughter of internationally eminent philosopher Swami Parthasarathy has learnt, through knowledge and a great deal of practice, to appreciate the beauty in every relationship.

Sunandaji highlights a single skill, that if applied can counter any relationship problem.  How often have you heard people say, “I haven’t found the right one yet”?   Perhaps you have said it too.  People take the greatest amount of care to choose the right partner.  What they forget is that a happy, successful marriage, has very little to do with finding ‘Mr Right’.

Vedanta, an ancient philosophy of life and living states that maintaining a harmonious marriage is about knowing how to correctly relate to your partner.  “It is not who or what you meet in life that matters but how you meet it”, says Sunandaji.  The cause of all bitterness in relationships cannot be attributed to the wrong partner, but to a lack of individual assessment of your partner.

Unfortunately, people do not study the nature of their spouse, children or colleagues and expect them to behave different from their basic structure.  It is like expecting a lamb to be ferocious or a tiger to be meek and mild.  When we relate with other species we accept them as they are. In fact, we admire the ferocity of a tiger and the mildness of a lamb.  Extending this approach to human beings you will soon find yourself admiring the nagging of your wife or the foul temper of your husband!

Sunandaji and Swami Parthasarathy will conduct a series of discourses this August.  It will deal with the application of the ancient principles of Vedanta in modern day life, a practice that will help one maintain harmony and enjoyment in every relationship.
