When will you be Happy?

By Linestha , 24.06.11 | Comments

Stress seminars have become the order of the day.  We are stressed out by our jobs, our relationships, our family obligations and all the challenges that accompany them.

We wonder; how will we overcome stress and find that elusive happiness we all crave for?  Eminent philosopher Sunandaji, states that it is not a question of finding happiness, but about re-discovering it within.

Sunandaji is the daughter-disciple of Swami Parthasarathy, both of whom will visit South Africa this August to conduct a series of lectures.  Sunandaji’s wealth of knowledge and clarity of thought stems from her study and practice of Vedanta.  Growing up in an ashram Sunandaji took to the study of Vedanta at an early age.  Vedanta, the ancient philosophy of life and living provides what every individual seeks – a stress-free, peaceful existence. Surrounded by wise individuals, Sunandaji learnt and imbibed the truths of life.

“By the time I reached 16, my mind was full of questions.  I took them to my father”, says Sunandaji.  She was referred to a host of books and scriptures and requested to browse through them.  That was the beginning of her journey.  She has since dedicated herself to the full-time study and propagation of Vedanta.

In her presentations, Sunandaji powerfully asserts that a stressful state of mind is unnatural.  This surprises most first time listeners who defensively argue that stress is a natural and normal part of life.

Sunandaji’s response, “It is not the world that distresses you, but how you relate to it”.  There are objects and beings that bring pleasure to some and extreme displeasure to others.  How then, can happiness be inherent in the external world?  Happiness is a result of the choices we make.  It does not come by luck or accident. Learning to choose wisely is what the philosophy of Vedanta is all about.

Sunandaji and Swami Parthasarathy’s discourses will deal with the technique of right living, which having mastered one meets with happiness and success in the world.
