Want To Become A Tutor The Right Way?
Have you ever wanted to become a tutor? Hire Education is a tutoring company that links up the very important resource (bright dynamic university students) to provide extra lessons to high school and primary school learners at their home. The company was founded in 2003 in order to fill a breach in South Africa’s education system.
All of our tutor recruitment is carried out at university level – it is initially based on your academic excellence in the subject of your choice. All of our prospective tutors should each have passed their subject of choice with at least a B symbol at Matric on a higher grade level. These are the basic requirements that you need to become a tutor.
The next step is to prove your natural teaching and mentoring ability. Are you someone who is able to convey your understanding of a certain subject onto another person? Were you the one your friends came to in Matric for help before exams? You could become a Hire Education Tutor.
Once you have become a tutor and are “out in the field”, the first thing you will have to do is to assess the learner’s academic situation and determine why he or she needs extra tuition. You will then need to put into operation a plan of the correct methods so that you can convey the concepts of your subject across to the learner in such a way that it is understood.
Traditionally extra lessons have always been given by a learner’s own teacher, often after school in their own classroom. Occasionally extra lessons are advertised in the local press, and involve schlepping a child to a nearby address. That’s not how it works with Hire Education.
Hire Education offers one-on-one extra lessons to both High School and Primary school pupils in the comfort of your own home. Our tutors cover the full range of GET and FET phase subjects, biology tutoring being just one of them. It is very easy to organize some extra biology tutoring for your child – a simple visit to our website or telephone call to us can set the balls rolling.
All of the Hire Education tutors undergo an exhaustive interview and training process before they are permitted to go out into the field, so to speak. Selection is initially based on their academic excellence at high school and a natural teaching and mentoring ability.
Applicant tutors also have to prove their ability to assess a learner’s academic situation and to implement the correct methods that ensure the effectiveness of our tuition services. It’s no good knowing Biology backwards unless the tutoring is also immaculate, and so our tutors are assessed on their ability to teach their subject of choice.
About The Author:
Hire Education is a tutoring company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. We provide tutors across South Africa, including Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban.
Our founder, Rory Brachner, started tutoring whilst studying way back in 2001. "I was always good at maths, but even better at explaining it" Rory was so good at tutoring that he got far more requests than he could possibly service himself. That's when the penny dropped. "I've got more learners than I can handle... why not find and train others to do the same thing I'm doing?” Rory, by that time, a 2nd year student, hired a fellow student as his first tutor in 2001. By the time he qualified and left university at the end of 2002 (to work for a listed technology company) he had 10 students working for him as tutors. He registered Hire Education in 2003 and we now have over 250 tutors across South Africa. Rory, with the help of an amazing team, has managed to spread and expand our tutoring philosophy and brand across the country.
Essentially, Hire Education takes the rich resource of bright young university students (with a natural teaching and mentoring ability) and connects them to school learners in need of assistance.
The rapid growth and continued success of Hire Education is testament to the huge need for a service like ours - providing individual attention and mentoring in the form of tutoring.
