MOREIRA – Represents Africa @ Brazil’s Jazz and Blues Festival
Moreira Chonguica, one of Africa’s most prominent Saxophonists and Producers, has been invited to perform with a group of session musicians led by prominent Brazilian drummer, Di Steffano Wolff at the 12th Annual Jazz and Blues Festival taking place on 7 March in Guaramiranga, North Eastern Province of Ceará, Brazil. 590 Musicians from 79 countries were considered for participation in the festival of which Moreira is the only African.
Moreira will perform at an open rehearsal on 7 March at 16h00 and then the live performance at 21h00 on the same day in the city centre.
On Thursday 10 March 2011 at 10h00, Moreira will conduct a workshop at SESC Sena Iracema in Fortaleza for up and coming musicians and then perform once again with the group on Friday 11 March at 21h00 at The Theatre of Shopping.
States Chonguica, “I’m very grateful to the organisers for selecting me for this festival and in doing so it fulfils a lifelong dream of not only performing but being able to pass on what I’ve learnt to younger musicians and at the same time share musical knowledge from Africa while creating a stronger link between the two continents."
The Jazz and Blues festival starts in the small town of Guaramiranga, Brazil and after four days moves to Fortaleza, Brazil’s 5th largest city. Although a little further out of the way from the major centres and being held in the middle of the carnival, the popularity of this festival is such that this event has found a permanent place on the Brazilian cultural calendar gaining popularity, credibility and audiences from all corners of the globe.
