Karate Schools in South Africa

By zanele, 02.03.11 | Comments
Karate is based in a tradition of discipline of the mind and body, and goes back centuries ago.

Therefore karate schools will teach you much more than just to protect yourself in moments of danger. Karate schools will also teach you about discipline in life - starting with small things like being on time for class.

The basis of what karate schools teach you is that survival is about technique and not necessarily force. Yet your mind set is more important than technique.

The discipline that karate schools will teach you starts with techniques on breathing, and finding harmony between mind and body.

If you want to get started with karate, remember that different karate schools might have different approaches. If you are interested, start by approaching the various different karate schools and finding out which of these you would be most comfortable with.

Some karate schools will teach a variety of martial arts styles, leaving you with the option to specialize in the specific style that suits you best.

While the discipline that karate schools teach is very important, it is also still important that karate skills do teach you practical and workable fighting techniques with which you will be able to protect yourself in the real world. At the same time the hard work and exercise that you will do at karate schools will help you become fit and develop more stamina.

If you plan on taking it further in karate, make sure that the karate school and gradings done at the specific karate school is internationally recognized as this is not the case with all karate schools. Karate schools should be recognised by SKISA – Shotokan Karate Do-Jo International South Africa.
