Hunter’s Country House Celebrates 21st Birthday

By The P.R Team, 16.11.10 | Comments

Hunter’s Country House, Plettenberg Bay, established in 1989, the first Hotel established by the Hunter family, proudly celebrates 21 years of service excellence this month. From its original 10 rooms, today Hunter’s Country House boasts 18 luxurious suites and is internationally acclaimed for its fine cuisine, award-winning wines and comfortable luxury experience. To commemorate this significant event, Hunter’s has decided to invite its chosen charity, Masizame Children’s Shelter located in Plettenberg Bay, consisting of a total of 26 children to join the celebrations. Over the years, Hunter’s has regularly donated monthly food parcels, toys and support to the children. The Tea Party held at Cub’s Corner presented the ideal occasion for the Hunter’s Team to present Masizame with a cheque for R10.785.00, a generous gift from Hotel guests, Robert and Carol Pepper who recently stayed at Hunter’s. The Pepper’s came across the Hotel’s Community Outreach photo album whilst staying at Hunter’s and requested to pay a visit to the Masizame Children’s Centre where they spent all afternoon with the Children and were inspired to assist them. This incredible donation with assist the children in much needed funds for schooling.

States Inge Johansen, General Manager: "Back in 1989 Craig and Jill Hunter opened the doors to one of the Garden Route’s first boutique Hotels. It’s a privilege to work at Hunter's with such an amazing team and to be a part of the tapestry of memories, enchanted evenings, special moments and legendary care and warmth of the staff that make Hunters what it is and indeed the entire Hunter Hotels Group. A staggering 35% of our staff has been with Hunter's for 10 to 16 years and a further 30% from 5 to 9 years.

There is something irreplaceable about revisiting a Hotel and having someone remember the details of how you enjoy your breakfast or exactly the proportions of your gin and tonic at sundown. Certainly a huge thank you to Craig and Jill for starting this journey and for laying the foundations of a company based on care, generosity and enthusiasm which now provides employment and career opportunities to over 150 South Africans."

Appropriately, Hunter’s Country House was recently honoured with the Diamond Award at the 2010 Diners Winelist Awards and Sage Restaurant, located on the Estate, is the proud, recent recipient of the American Express Platinum Card Fine Dining Awards in the Renewed Awards category.2010 sees Hunter’s Country House celebrate its birthday along with two of its sister properties Tsala Treetop Lodge and Gorah Elephant Camp both of which have become proud members of the Relais & Châteaux Association and 5-star accreditation.
