Top Performers Pledge their Talents for CANSA's Night of 100 Stars

By Jozi Donjeany for SUNCOAST Durban, 14.07.10 | Comments

True to its reputation, the glamorous Night of 100 Stars has garnered the support of South Africa’s foremost screen and stage talents for its must-see event on Monday, 16 August at Suncoast Casino & Entertainment World in Durban.

The spectacular event is held annually in aid of the Cancer Society of South Africa’s Durban branch (CANSA), with all proceeds from the evening going towards cancer research projects and awareness campaigns in the Durban region.

Performance director Mark Hawkins and his talented production teams from Black Coffee and Darkhorse Productions have pulled no punches in lining up the cream of the local entertainment scene.

Says Hawkins, “Night of 100 Stars typically sees artists volunteering their time and artistic talents to support this worthy initiative, without any payment and simply because they believe in the work that CANSA does.

“We are extremely thrilled at the line-up of stars who have committed to the campaign this year.”

Confirmed artists set to perform at Night of 100 Stars include: comedian Joey Rasdien; award-winning actor, musician and vocalist Tim Wells; the multitalented, comedic couple, Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert; actor Ben Voss and his hilarious BEE alter ago, Beauty Ramapelepele; singer and cabaret artist extraordinaire, Melanie Roberts and Durban dancers from Eeny Meeny Mino Mo Entertainment.

There is also the high-energy band, Solid Gold; former Idols Top 10 contestant and accomplished stage personality, Pume Zondi; singer Lauren Laing; Black Magic vocalist Khaya Mthethwa and Timothy Moloi, whose smooth-as-chocolate voice and masterful range wowed crowds at the 2010 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony.

Topping it all off are multiple award-winning actress Gina Shmukler, whom Johannesburg audiences will see this year in the smash-hit, Mamma Mia; Durban’s velvet-voiced Lyle Buxton; opera singer and Radio Zulu presenter, Thokozani Mkhize-Ndlovu; ‘Kicking it Country’ stars Janna Ramos-Violante, Darren King and Marion Loudon; Kirsten Dey, who will perform an excerpt from Hairspray; Durban Diva Pinkie Mtshali and veteran performer Sam Marais.

CANSA Durban project facilitator Shauneeta Pargoolall said the event was a popular calendar date for theatre-loving individuals and corporates alike.

“It’s top notch entertainment and it’s all for a good cause, so we’re encouraging everybody to get their bookings in as early as possible to ensure they don’t miss out,” she said.

Tickets for the evening are R500 per person or R5,000 per table, which includes complimentary wine, a delectable selection of gourmet cuisine and an evening of top class entertainment.

Donations can also be made to CANSA Durban if you are unable to attend the event.
